چکیده

Background: Dentistry science has evolved over the years. According to a 2012 report, submitted by epidemiology department, it was found that 62% people completely lose their teeth out of which 19.2% in mandibular area and 12.2% in maxilla. So the study is done with a specific focus on design of new attachment, in order to increase retention and stability of single implant retained overdentures used to conquer edentulism. Materials and Methods: An electronic search with the keywords like overdentures, implant, single implant overdentures, single implant vs two implant, biomechanical behaviour was carried out on Science Direct, Researchgate and Google Scholar. Open access articles were obtained whenever possible and other inaccessible articles were requested fromcorresponding authors. The referred articles in previous studies were also obtained or requested. Results: The search resulted intotal of 52 articles out of which 19 articles were within the specified criteria. Among the 19, 3articles wereon conventional dentures vs single implant overdentures, 4 compared the single implant overdentures and two implant overdentures, 2 are related to implant location, 3 articles discussed types of attachments, prosthetic maintenance of implants was studied in 3 articles, 2 articles were on immediate loading / early loading and 2 on biomechanical behaviour of single implants. Conclusions: The study concludes that single implant supported overdentures can be a cost effective solution for middle class people with same retention and stability like multiple implant supported overdentures.

Comparison of the Effect of Ball and Bar Attachment Designs on Retention and Stability of Mandibular Implant-Supported Overdentures

Objectives: The present study evaluated the effect of bar and ball attachment designs on retention and stability of a mandibular overdenture supported by four implants. Methods: An edentulous mandibular acrylic resin model with four implants in the anterior part of the ridge (A, B, D and E) was fabricated. A metal framework simulating the overdenture was also fabricated. Totally, 30...

Effect of Abutment Height Difference on Stress Distribution in Mandibular Overdentures: A Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis

Background and Aim: Implant-supported overdentures are a treatment option for edentulous patients. One of the important factors in determining the prognosis of overdenture treatment is to control the distribution of stress in the implant-bone and attachment complex. This study assessed the effect of implant abutment height difference on stress distribution in mandibular overdentures. Materials...

The influence of the number and the type of magnetic attachment on the retention of mandibular mini implant overdenture

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to compare the retention of mini implant overdenture by the number, the type of magnetic attachment, and the directions of applied dislodging force. MATERIALS AND METHODS The experimental groups were designed by the number and type of magnetic attachment. Twenty samples were tested with Magden implants. Each attachment was composed of the magnet assembly in o...

In vitro retention force measurement for three different attachment systems for implant-retained overdenture

AIM The aim of this study is to compare the retention force of three different types of overdenture attachment systems used in implant-retained mandibular complete overdentures. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-one similar acrylic resin blocks were prepared and divided into three study groups: Group A (snap attachment) - 10 specimens, Group B (locator attachment) - 1 specimen, and Group C (syncon...
